Balsam for skin, body and spirit. Hypericum perforatum
In my garden, except for strawberries, there are some bushes of Balsam flowers too. No, I did not plant it. It grows wild in my garden; it grows on its own. The official name of Balsam is Hypericum perforatum. The leaves when seen in the light look like perforations (perforatum). The Balsam brew tastes a little bitter. It is said that Hypericum perforatum helps a lot in cases of melancholy, when one drinks it as a tea.
It is also a sedative, especially in cases of stress and insomnia. The oil that I describe below, serves to treat burns and chaffing. You can also apply it to wounds and you can also use the balsam oil on injuries. Apply the balsam oil by massaging it on to the area of injury. It has a little warming sensation, when you rub or massage the balsam oil on to your body. One teaspoon each morning can relieve stomach ulcers. Not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.
Balsam oil recipe. You need to cut the stem and flower of the balsam plant, so that you get about 30 centimeters of the plant and the flower. Make sure you leave the root in the soil, for next year’s plants.
Next, place the cut Balsam plants in a glass jar and add organically processed olive oil, but if you don't have such organically processed oil, you may use any olive oil. Place the jar at a sunny place for about a month. When the balsam becomes a strong red color it is ready for use.
